Bolton Wanderers Community Trust’s walking footballers recently travelled to Salisbury to take part in a walking football tournament raising funds for ex-Bolton Wanderers player Stephen Darby and his charity ‘The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation’, which supports research into Motor Neurone Disease.
The day was organised by Stephen’s uncle, Mark and included teams from across the country coming together to raise vital funds. Teams included Stephen’s former playing sides Liverpool, Bradford City and the Bolton Wanderers team, whilst others such as Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United were also in attendance.
Stephen and his Wife, Manchester City and England captain Steph Houghton were there throughout the day, spending time with the teams and to officially open the tournament.
The games themselves were played in great spirits, and although the Bolton side did not make it through to the knockout stages; winning one game, losing one game and drawing three, all players enjoyed the weekend and were delighted to be given the chance to meet and speak with Stephen.
