Stelios Giannakopoulos was a firm favourite with the Wanderers fans during his five years as a player at the University of Bolton Stadium (2003-2008) and the 44 year-old former Greece international spoke highly of the Community Trust’s Summer Soccer Camps after his children had attended some of the sessions at the Eddie Davies Academy.
He said: ‘They (My children) attend every year. At this moment in time, they have the chance to train and play football on some fantastic facilities. I wish these type of facilities were available to me when I was their age, but they weren’t.’
‘We only played in the streets and in the mud – we didn’t have grass. To have these fantastic facilities, coaches and conditions, like they have now, it is great for them to develop their skills.’
‘It’s a great experience for the youngsters and it is good for the club as well to open the door to the community. It gives the children the chance to play football and enjoy themselves.’
‘Even if they won’t become professional footballers – they can’t all be professional footballers, they’ve still had the chance to participate in training sessions with qualified coaches, and at the same training ground that the first team use and that is quite an experience for them!’
